Why Did I Write This Book?

In a recent trip south I visited New Orleans, which has been a long-time dream destination for me. I love jazz music, and I definitely love eating food, so I had a wonderful time while I was there even though it rained almost the entire span of my days there. Due to the rain, we did not come across any street performers, and my focus shifted a bit. Where I expected jazz and one big party, I found peace, an umbrella, and a deep appreciation for the history of where I was standing.

While walking around the city with my sister and her kids, what I expected to be air filled with beautiful music I found the pitter patter of rain, and murmurs of small crowds. We made our way to Jackson Square, and for a moment I just had to stare at St. Louis Cathedral. I haven’t been able to make it to the south many times in my life, so seeing a building that predates my country was awe-inspiring, and has definitely stuck with me. (I need to do another trip over ASAP).

While we road tripped our way to South Carolina, driving through forests of oak trees, rolling hills, and farmland, I kept thinking to myself, “These are the lands we fought for in the Revolution.”

We we rolled up into the red mud, I was reminded of a book idea that I had a few years prior, which at the time had the incredibly short title of, “God’s Role in The Revolutionary War: Examples of Divine Providence, Historical Faith, and Miracles in the 18th Century”

Thank God I didn’t go with that one huh?

Anyways, I felt a pull on my heart to actually write this book, because up until this trip it was stuck in my “I will maybe do this one day if I feel like it” section of my notes.

The book’s concept, viewing the events of the Revolution through the lens of Christianity, turned quickly into a study project the likes of which I have never done, even in school (my grades were bad, but I had fun). What was originally going to be more of an opinion piece about these events, became an in depth look at Scripture and the patterns within it that carry over into the American Revolution.

Because we are celebrating America 250 this year, I felt a bit of a time crunch. “How cool would it be if I could get this done in time for Independence Day this year?” turned into “Wow no I actually have to do this in time for Independence Day.”

Thanks to many prayers from my friends, and ultimately God working through me, I was able to finish this book in just over a week and submit for distribution.
